Rivers Performing Arts (NORPA)

in the region, creating contemporary Australian work with a particular emphasis
on Australian music theatre and contemporary opera.

For sports-lovers, Lismore plays a vital role in the region. Oakes Oval is
its magnificent sporting ground for major events, and there are dozens of
other playing fields and tennis courts, several gymnasiums, swimming pools,
plus horse and greyhound racing tracks. The popular speedway circuit is the
largest in the region.
Each week finds the sporting crowd involved in rugby (both codes), cricket,
soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, tennis, swimming events, roller skating
and roller blading, not to mention, croquet, tenpin bowling, horse-riding,
bush walking, lawn bowling and golf.

- Byron
Bay Blues & Roots Music Festival The largest Festival of
Blues & Roots music to be held in the southern hemisphere is held over
5 nights and 4 days with non-stop music on 4 stages daily over 50
hours of sheer musical bliss. Set on five hectares the event offers market
and craft stalls, eating places secure parking, carnival rides, kids activities,
street theatre and more

Mardi Grass A one of a kind festival, held in Nimbin each May.

JUNE
- The
Lismore Lantern Parade In 1994 the first Lismore Lantern Parade
was held, there were just a few hundred people. In 2003 over 10,000 people
filled the streets of Lismore on the longest night of the year. The lantern
parade involves participants from throughout the Northern Rivers and visitors
to the region. Workshops start at Easter in lantern, mask & costume making,
Carnival Dance and the parade bands.

JULY

4WD Caravan and Camping Show All the latest in 4WD vehicles and accessories,
caravans and camper trailers.
- Opera at The Channon Rotary Clubs of Lismore and Lismore Central have
held this popular cultural event. Staged in The Channon, Opera in The Channon
is a wonderful 'black tie or lounge suit' occasion enjoyed by many.
AUGUST
- Northern
Rivers Herb Festival held in Riverside Park Lismore in late August
each year. It's a non-profit event celebrating growing herb growing and
herb product industry. The event is filled with things to do and see and
eat.

Bay Writers Festival The Festival is held at Byron bay over four
days at the beginning of August each year, attracting some of Australia's
top writers. The festival includes some wonderful workshops by the industries

- Bangalow Music Festival
SEPTEMBER
- Master Games II 24 participating sports, where the 'mature aged' sportsperson
can show'em what they're made of. This event is expected to attract over 2000
competitors.
- The Northern Star Lismore Cup A gala day at the racetrack usually attracting
over 10,000 racegoers. The event is a paid half-day holiday in most businesses
of Lismore.
